Question 1

How does splitting by column value work?

Accepted Answer

You choose a column (like 'Country' or 'Category') and the tool creates separate CSV files for each unique value in that column. Each output file contains only the rows matching that value, with headers included.

Question 2

What's the difference between CSV Splitter and Split by Column?

Accepted Answer

The regular splitter divides files by row count (e.g., 1,000 rows per file). Split by Column groups rows by a column's values — ideal for separating data by region, department, status, or any categorical field.

Question 3

Can I split by multiple column values at once?

Accepted Answer

The tool splits based on one column at a time. Each unique value in the selected column produces a separate file. If you need to split by a combination of columns, consider concatenating those columns first.

Question 4

How are the output files named?

Accepted Answer

Each output file is named using the original filename plus the column value. For example, splitting 'sales.csv' by 'Region' would produce 'sales_North.csv', 'sales_South.csv', etc. All files are packaged in a ZIP download.
